feeding puncture

Yellowish or brownish spots on the leaf surface caused by female agromyzids. All of these punctures are caused by the females' ovipositor but in most cases oviposition is not the goal of the female. Instead, they feed on the sap emerging from the puncture. Although true egg punctures and feeding punctures cannot easily distinguished in the field, leaves densely spotted with punctures normally do not contain eggs.
